Harry Harris 1922-2009

Somewhat late with this tribute, but Harry Harris passed away earlier this year, on March 19, 2009.  He was a phenominal director, who directed 40 episodes of The Waltons.  His career spanned over 47 years and he continued working until well into his 80s.  Other shows he directed during his career included 7th Heaven, Beverly Hills 90210, Dr Quinn Medecine Woman, Eight is Enough, Cagney and Lacey, Our House, and Fame.  It was for an episode of Fame that he was awarded an Emmy award, “To Soar and Never Falter”.

His many episodes of The Waltons included ones like The Fire, The Journey, The Runaway, The System, The Genius, The Burnout, The Career Girl, The First Casualty, and so many others.  Whilst he didn’t direct any during the final season Harris did return during 1982 to direct my favorite telemovie “A Day of Thanks on Waltons Mountain”, and then again in 1992 for “A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion”.

Thank you for being an important part of The Waltons, and thank you for directing so many brilliant episodes.  What a fantastic legacy you have left us.

RIP

  1. I love the Walton’s. I believe that is one of the all time best family show.

I was collecting the DVD series, but now I can’t find any more. I would love to have the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Do you know where to purchase these at a reasonable price?

  2. R.I.P.!
